Best Friend Poems

Finding the right way to tell your best friend how much they mean to you can sometimes be a hard thing to do. Sometimes, the only way to truly tell them how you feel about them is by giving them a poem that says how important they are to you, and how your life will not be the same without them.

Your best friend is the most important person in your life. You want to effectively tell them how important they really are. It is very difficult to come up with words to accurately explain what kind of an impact a best friend really has in a person’s life. A creative way of explaining to your best friend what they actually mean to you is to write them a poem.

Poems are something different, and in most cases, unexpected by best friends. If your best friend is the same as mine, they have known you for a very long time. They know you so well that they know what you are going to do, even before you do it. With those kinds of friends, there are no mysteries and surprises in your relationship. If you are not normally the type of person who gives out poems, this is something that will truly be unexpected. Your best friend will appreciate the change, and the work it took to write the poem.

Opening up your feelings in poems may be a scary idea for some people. You might not be an artistic or creative person. You may feel that your writing skills are not adequate enough to accurately portray your feelings to your best friend. This is not a problem. There are many websites that specializes in creating a custom poem for any occasion. This may be a better option for those who are unable to put their feelings in writing themselves.

Regardless of how or who writes the poem, your best friend will truly appreciate the gesture of a poem given to them, telling them how important they are to your life.

Marketing for Massage Therapists and Physical Therapies Including Aromatherapists, Massuers

All therapists want and need clients and customers for their businesses to survive and thrive. Yet the main worry for massage therapists, aromatherapists, massuers and other physical therapy providers is that their current stream of clients and customers will dry up.

Why do Massage Therapists Always Fear a Drought of Clients?
Simply put, because that has been the experience in the past. Sometimes they will have a glut of customers coming through only to be followed by a drought. This has happened to so many massage therapists in the past that they may come to accept it as being ‘par for the course’ even though they don’t want it.

Excuses for no clients
Many massage therapists will makes excuses to themselves or anyone who will listen as to why they do not have many clients. They will make up excuses such as :-

1) It is always quiet at this time of the year
2) It’s a seasonal thing
3) People don’t have the money because it is just after

a) Christmas

b) Easter

c) The summer holidays

d) A recession

e) The year end tax bill
4) I like it when it’s quiet !
5) I had a busy week last week
6) I am located in a poor part of town
7) It’s raining
8) It’s sunny
9) And many more

They will convince themselves that their lack of clients is down to some often fictional reason as opposed to the fact that their marketing sucks!

What Can Massage Therapists Do to Get More Clients?
Well, if a massage therapist has been in business for any length of time no matter how short, they will have a database of past clients. This database is a valuable commodity if and only if it is used correctly.

It is much easier, and less expensive to keep an existing customer than it is to attract a new customer. Existing customers are considered a warm market. So if you haven’t already done so, you need to get some of your past clients who you haven’t treated for some to time, back as a regular customer.

How can you get back past clients and customers?
Simply make them an offer they can’t refuse. Try any or all of the following:-

1) Try sending a postcard reminding them that you are available
2) Offer them a discount. Something like 6 sessions for the price of 5.
3) Offer a different type of service and tell them you are trialling this service
amongst your favourite customers. Because they are a favourite customer they will enjoy a 40% discount.

Any contact with past customers and clients can prove fruitful. Now in order to get them to take action, let them know that your offer is limited to this month only. If you want quicker responses send an email or text message.

Now, here comes the killer punch! Encourage your existing clients to give you referrals to their relatives, friends and colleagues. Tell the for each referral they give you who then turns into a new customer, you will give them some reward (discount sessions, free sessions or other incentive).

Repeat What Works
If you keep repeating the above over and over again your will find your client database will rocket in size very quickly.

Elements of Decision Making in a Home Based Online Business

Why is Decision Making Important?

This is the first in a series of short articles on decision making, as it may affect the progress, or otherwise, of your home based online business. The main purpose of the articles is to get you thinking, more than you might have done, about decisions that affect your business. It is not possible in short articles to cover what is really an endless subject, but I hope by the end of the series you will be more conscious of the decisions you make which may affect:

1.The profitability of your online business.

2.The scope for expansion.

3.Your efficiency.

4.The productive use of your time.

5.Your family.

6.Your enjoyment of working online.

plus many other aspects of working at home online, in your own business.

Why is decision making important? You only need to consider that for a moment to realize: that it is a dumb question. From the moment you wake, you are passing through a series of tens of thousands of little decisions. You are not very aware of most of them, they are routine, semi or sub-conscious decisions. Any one of those “little” decisions could have a major influence on the future path of your life.

For example, you are in a hurry and decide to cross the road at a certain point. A car comes hurtling around the corner, and knocks you into the air. Thankfully you are still alive after you land, but are taken to hospital and are there for a couple of weeks, at one point in Intensive Care. You are employed, but your employer is not sympathetic, will not pay you, and for a few days you lie there worrying about losing your job. You have no insurance, so how will you pay the bills?

Was crossing the road at that point, at that time, a bad decision? On the face of it, yes, it was stupid to say the least. But what if, in the two weeks in hospital, you fall in love with a nurse? Later, you marry and have several wonderful children? Was that still a bad decision, crossing the road then and there?

Not only did you meet your future spouse, the person in the next bed turned out to have some good business ideas they wanted to put into practice. You got chatting about them as your condition started to improve. The two of you found you saw eye to eye on lots of things, and it was clear that you would both benefit from the synergy of working together on a business project. The other person had the ideas and money in place, but needed you as a partner to take it forward. When you were both fit and well again, he subsidized you while the business was set up. It prospered, and within months you were earning 4 times your previous income. Was that still a bad decision, crossing the road then and there?

That is fiction, but is it unrealistic fiction? No. There are probably many thousands of very similar stories. And there are countless millions of true stories about seemingly little decisions that have altered the course of people’s lives.

What I have been referring to are almost random events. I say “almost” because the decision to cross the road was not random. An adult crossing the road like that had sufficient information to make a correct decision. They did not make use of their knowledge and information. As decision making goes, it was a bad decision, regardless of what random events followed.

Making decisions in your every day business needs to be more focused, more scientific, and much more aware, than you may have been used to in your life as an employee. Most of us have, at some stage, passed through a zombie like existence of repetition, working for a company or other organization. It may even be that you have had little scope to make decisions other than when and where to cross the road, what to eat for dinner, what to watch on tv, and what to wear today. Now, though, with your own online business, there is massive scope for making key decisions, every day. How you do that will have a serious impact on the future of your business.

I believe that just by being more conscious of your decisions, your business will benefit, and so will you. Relying on the business equivalent of crossing the road at the wrong time, meeting the love of your life and your perfect business partner, is not an option if your are serious about your business. You cannot rely on random events, although undoubtedly some random events will affect you in the future. Business is often a percentage game, and you want to make decisions that tilt the odds in your favour.

Decision making in business is about bringing together as much relevant information as possible, in a structured and understandable way, and consciously reviewing that information before arriving at a decision. It is about assessing possible outcomes, probabilities, future trends, past experiences and all other relevant factors. Ignoring those factors may not put you in hospital, but would harm your business.

I will cover elements of business decision making in future articles. In the mean time, if you are in search of a new loved one and business partner, please do not step out in front of a car. Your local hospital may not be the place where they are currently waiting for you.

How Location Based Services Are Mis-used?

The Global Positions System (GPS) satellites are free for anyone to use. However, to use it, a GPS receiver is required which is not free. In recent years these GPS receivers have become very small and embedded in mobile phones. This has given rise to many location based services. Though there are many LBS applications that are very useful, there are a few applications that are misused.

One of the location-based services as mentioned at http://www.m-indya.com is Child Tracking. In a study carried out by New Media Technologies students (2005) in Australia, they have detailed how this service can be misused. They state that,

“In 1998 the US implemented the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act 1998 which limits the ways Web site operators and others may collect and disseminate information pertaining to customers under the age of 13. So far, Australia has not followed suit and does not seem to have a law, which directly protects children from technology such as the Internet. With the introduction of global positioning systems for tracking purposes, the issue of child protection needs to be addressed before this technology gets into the wrong hands and used for malicious purposes.”

Some of the other consequences that may occur due to these services are the problem of parent-child relationship and also marital relationship. In their study they point out “parents should negotiate with their teenagers an agreeable form of knowing where they are whether it be GPS on their phone or just a phone call to let them know where they are. This will ensure that the relationship will not be damaged through a form of mistrust.”

And even between spouses each needs a bit of their own space and privacy, which will be jeopardised by the use of this service and may cause problems in marital relationships.

In a ZDNet news by Lisa Bowman (1999) speaks of some scary scenarios where this technology can be misused such as, “Insurance companies could refuse to insure you, or charge you higher rates, unless you install a tracking system on your car. They could then tell if you drive over 55 or spend time in shady neighbourhoods where your car has a greater chance of being stolen.” Or “FBI and local police officials could have access to your whereabouts by simply logging onto a database attached to a cell phone, tollbooth or GPS tracker”.

In yet another case a rental car company was sued by the customer for tracking him down using GPS. “In a case that could help set the bar for the amount of privacy drivers of rental cars can expect, a Connecticut man is suing a local rental company, Acme Rent-a-Car, after it used GPS (Global Positioning System) technology to track him and then fined him $450 for speeding three times.” (Robert Lemos, 2001).

A Wireless week (2003) article lists how even location based games can be misused. “In Sweden, thousands of wireless game subscribers stalk each other using cell phones and location technology. In Japan, you can use a GPS-enabled cell phone to arrange a date, an application sometimes used by teenage prostitutes. In many countries around the world, a GPS-based game called “geocaching” is growing in popularity.” Ever since Princess Diana’s death the perils of stalking has come to the forefront in the media. The availability of such services will only help the stalkers.

As if these are not enough there are other privacy issues related to location based services. If you need further reference visit the website http://www.m-indya.com

Globalisation, Online Communities, & Virtual Teams

For those who haven’t realised yet, I am very much a proponent of Globalisation (and the outsourcing that comes with it), online communities (and the knowledge management benefits that come with them), virtual teams and fractional work. I believe that each of these key components to the future of the way we do work can only benefit us all. Not everyone agrees with me.

I recently read this blog where the author clearly wants to stop outsourcing and cites two reasons; firstly to stop jobs going overseas and secondly to prevent talking to call centres which are “obviously based overseas”. the first of these two is of most interest to me. Of course, no-one wants to see jobs lost, more so if it’s your job. However, I do believe that there are plenty of good reasons for jobs going overseas. If jobs were outsourced simply because of economics, whilst many would dislike this, what’s wrong with it?

From a high-level view nothing has really changed here. You are in competition for your job. You always were and you always will be. What’s slightly different is rather than be in competition with those who are, say, within a 50 mile radius, of your office location this radius how now potentially extended to contain the entire world.

There is a hidden change though and this is the one that I suspect is the most frustrating to those who are affected. Influence. Normally, you can influence whether you get, keep and progress in a job through your performance. Now, performance is not the single factor, money is under consideration. If you have generic, transferable skills then you must accept that just about anyone in the world can acquire those skills to the same level. At this point, given that the skill base and standard of it is constant, economics will prevail – as it should.

The proliferation of internet use and the more recent developments of online communities are making it easier and easier for us to conduct business on a global scale. Many thousands of people have a public, searchable profile on the internet enabling then to be “found”. If you know what you are looking for, you can find it in seconds and not just one. You’ll find tens or hundreds and probably in every country. So now you can build your virtual team of colleagues. Imagine the efficiencies you could realise if you selected your colleagues with geographic spread such that part, or parts, of your team are always working at any point in a 24 hour period. Seven hour days are out, flexibility is in.

So now you need to “manage” your virtual team. You all need a place to have your virtual meetings, there’s no boardroom, no coffee and no biscuits in cyberspace. So you choose a collaboration platform, Basecamp is one example that I have used. Each team member has a logon. You give your clients and suppliers logons too (perhaps with slightly different access). No we can all virtually meet with ease. We can share files, comment on them, version them. Track meeting actions, tasks and their delivery dates and, of course, the project plan. Without realising it, and with no plan to do it, who now have a small knowledge management platform. A single repository that is searchable, containing all data pertinent to a project, country, client – however you choose to categorise. It’s a permanent transcript of all events for future reference and learning.

OK, so what about fractional work. It’s simple. How easy do you think it will be in the future to find a trulyfull time job? Be honest with yourself. They will be thin on the ground for sure. They are getting thinner now but the difference (read advantage) to the employee at the moment is that process hasn’t changed. Take the IT contract market. Have you ever wondered why contractors are only ever needed for three or six month durations? They’re not, but companies cannot work differently. Working part time is a foreign concept to many. It requires stronger management, which in itself is seen as a disadvantage by many. It requires some change to HR processes. In the main these changes have not taken place but they will.

There will be an early adopter, the first to deliver an IT project within budget, perhaps under budget. It will be done with fractional workers (part time in old language), used when they are needed and when they can be productive – when they can deliver value. We have the concept of Interim Management at the moment. This is the right theme for the future although I suspect it was driven initially by commercial force simply because companies could not afford to employ interim managers full time and so had to consider how and when to best use their services. To the best of my knowledge though interim management is still pretty local. I haven’t seen any that offer remote work, virtual team work.

With technology such as JyvePro interim management companies could be marketing their members on a truly global scale. The managers themselves can be earning money in time that was previously “dead time”. Once this is adopted, it’s only a matter of time until the Interim Management Company becomes a cybermediary and then the future is truly upon us.

In the future we will become portfolio workers with many touch points around the globe. Many clients, many suppliers, many projects. Who could wish for anything more. We’ll have unbeatable diversity and so stimulation. Diversity brings risk mitigation, if you don’t perform or are let down by a supplier on one project you have others to fall back on.
The early adopters will lead the pack though. This may sound like stating the blindingly obvious but those who start early will build a reputation early. The better you reputation, the more people will want to work with you. If you’re late to the game, you are putting yourself on a slippery slope and many will slide to the bottom.

How to Optimize Your PC Computer for Easy, Stress Free Video Editing

Editing video, regardless of the format, places extreme demands on a computer, so you should tweak your system to be more efficient.

Programs that are set to run as soon as the computer boots up hog valuable system resources. If you have lots of little icons in the bottom right of your screen, then you are a prime candidate for a ‘clear out.’

The good news is that there are a number of things you can do to prevent these ‘blockages’ that play havoc with video editing.

Note: If you are not fully competent with the way computers work, do not attempt the following procedures yourself. Ask a local computer tech guy to help you out. It’s important!
You can find these problematic ‘gremlins’ in three places:

1. From the ‘Start’ menu, click on ‘All Programs’, then view the ‘Startup’ folder. Any non-essential programs in that folder should be deleted so as not to run at ’startup’. Do not attempt this unless you are sure of what you are doing.

2. From the ‘Run’ command, type ‘msconfig’ in the box to bring up the System Configuration Utility. Again, this is only for advanced computer uses. The ‘Startup’ tab allows you to identify and uncheck any items that you do not want running automatically in the background when the computer starts. Most computers have many items that can be unchecked to free up resources.

3. Some programs are set to run automatically at certain times of the day. For example, some anti-virus or anti-spyware software does this. Go into each program individually and either ensure that such updates are set to update manually, or set them to update at a time that won’t affect your editing, such as in the middle of the night (your computer still needs to be on).

There are some other steps to take too:

1.Disable the desktop wallpaper (select a plain color background rather than an image or photo).

2.Disable the clock in the bottom right corner of your screen.

3.Disable screen-savers.

4.Disable power-management features that could turn off hard disks etc.

What else can you do?

Defrag Regularly

Regularly defragmenting ALL your hard drives is essential. Preferably, this should be done once a week, or after capturing. You would be astonished at how many times a sluggish editing project is due to the video files being fragmented. This is because video files are often very large, and when they are captured, the disk is working so hard to keep up with the data rate that it puts the information in the first available place on the drive. This often means it is spread across different parts of the drivethat’s why they are referred to as being fragmented.

Although Windows has a defrag utility built-in, there are other faster, superior utilities out there that you should consider.

Multiple Drives

You need to use at least three hard drives in an editing system: one drive for your operating system, another to capture video (but preferably a RAID setup), and finally a drive to export your finished projects for storage. It’s asking too much for a system to run the editing software AND capture to the same drive. You might get away with it with some DV systems, but you won’t with HDV.

Games are Evil

Games are the evil enemy of editing computers. Never load games on your editing system, as they WILL hog an enormous amount of resources and they WILL play havoc with various behind-the-scenes settings to really screw your machine up when you come to edit. If you’re into games, get another computer just for that! You’ve been warned!

Viruses and Spyware

If games are the evil enemy of editing computers then viruses and spyware are in a league of their own at causing havoc and leaving a path of vicious destruction. Sadly, these days it is unbelievably easy to be a victim of spyware and viruses. Some of the geekiest computer nerds that I know have been victims of serious viruses that destroyed the data on their computers. One survey showed that it was not uncommon for a computer that was connected to the Internet to be infected within two minutes of an operating system being installed!

What can you do about this major issue? Firstly, don’t use email on your editing computer. It’s just not worth it. No single anti-virus software is 100% effective, so why take the chance that one day you might lose a project that you had spent days, even weeks working on? Use a separate computer for all tasks other than editing, whether it is games, e-mail, word processing, accounts, or whatever. Don’t think that you will be one of the ‘lucky ones’. If you take no precautions at some point you WILL get a virus and regret it.

Secondly, install anti-spyware and anti-virus software and run it regularly. An excellent anti-virus software that many pros use is ‘AVG’ from www.grisoft.com. Microsoft offer a utility to detect and destroy spyware, called Windows Anti-Spyware. It can be downloaded from www.microsoft.com/downloads. Other options are also available.

Spend the Time and Reap the Rewards

All of these tweaks and adjustments might sound like a lot of hassle, but you will find that they make a big difference to the responsiveness of your system. The good news is that most of these changes can be made once and then left alone, so it’s not as complicated or time-consuming as you might think.

Dog Breed Profile

History

Border Collies date back many, many years, although were given the name Border Collie around 1915. They were bred out of necessity; shepherds in the borders between England and Scotland could not have worked their flocks without the help of their trusted sheep dogs. Many herding dogs exist, but the image that most people summon when they think of sheep dogs is that of the Border Collie.

Appearance

Border Collies have a fairly broad face, with strong short muzzle. They have beautiful, big oval eyes, which are usually brown but can be striking blue in merle coloured dogs.

The most common Border Collie colour is Black and White, although they also come in red and white, blue merle and many variations in-between. Their coats can be long or short, but are dense in both cases.

Border Collies look like true athletes; strong and agile – they are so active that its rare to see an overweight Border Collie!!

Temperament

Border Collies are extremely intelligent and are the true work-a-holics of the dog world!!

They are extremely loyal to their trusted family group but generally develop an unbreakable bond with their master; no dog can make its master feel more important and loved than a Border Collie; once you have their trust, its hard to break!

They are great fun for older kids as they will play Frisbee or ball; they have endless energy and the kids will tire long before a Border Collie would!

Their intelligence does not make them ideal pets for most people; they need significant amounts of exercise and if they are not given a job to do to keep their mind active, they can become destructive and stressed.

Agility, Flyball and Obedience competitions are dominated by Border Collies because of their energy and intelligence. Some of these competitions run classes called ABC classes (Anything But Collies) to give some of the other breeds a chance!!

Grooming

A quick groom once or twice a week (perhaps more at shedding time), should keep a Border Collie’s dense coat in lovely, shiny condition.

Exercise

Border Collies require significant amounts of physical and mental exercise; they will walk and run for hours and will still want to play ball when you get home! They excel in agility, flyball and obedience because of their boundless energy and intelligence.

They will make themselves busy around the house; performing tricks and fetching and carrying newpapers and post. But if you don’t give these dogs mental workouts and things to do, they will find things for themselves, like emptying bins and generally being destructive!

Not a dog for the feint hearted!!

Health Problems

Border Collies are one of the healthiest and hardiest dogs and do not tend to suffer illness often. Some Border Collies suffer from allergies and deafness is known to affect the breed occasionally.
