Holiday Shopping – Prompt Delivery Rules
The Internet is the fastest growing source of holiday gifts orders. The FTC, however, has received complaints in the past about gifts not being delivered on time. To stop this, the agency has set down rules for Internet retailers.
The FTC has issues directives spelling out the ground rules for making promises about shipments, notifying consumers about unexpected delays, and refunding consumers’ money. Enforced by the FTC, the Mail or Telephone Order Rule applies to orders placed by phone, fax or the Internet.
Delivery Rules
By law, an Internet retailer must have a reasonable basis for stating that a product can be shipped within a certain time. If their advertising doesn’t clearly and prominently state the shipment period, they must have a reasonable basis for believing they can ship within 30 days. Most retailers, however, will promise much shorter times, even a few days if you agree to extra shipping costs.
If a retailer runs into inventory problems and can’t ship within the promised time, it must notify you of the delay. The retailer must also provide a revised shipment date and explain your right to cancel and get a full and prompt refund. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Your Response
For definite delays of up to 30 days, a retailer can treat a customer’s silence as agreeing to the delay. But for longer or indefinite delays – and second and subsequent delays – a retailer must get the customer’s written, electronic or verbal consent to the delay. If you tell the retailer to pound sand, they must promptly refund all of your money.
FTC Takes Care of You
The FTC takes a very aggressive stance towards retailers who fail to deliver orders on time. This is particularly true if a retailer blows it during the Christmas season. Millions of dollars in fines are handed out each year.
Summary
If you order gifts online, keep notes on when you ordered and expect delivery. Also, keep an eye out for emails from the retailer, particularly since they may end up in your spam box. If nothing comes from the retailer, get on the phone and find out what is going on. Taking these steps will keep the kinks out of your online holiday shopping experience.

Every year my family asks me what I want for Mother’s Day. Every year, I give them the same answer that I learned from my mother. This would allow me to ignore and step over all socks, jackets, shoes and anything else that gets tossed on the floor. I wouldn’t be expected to pick up anything. And even better, it would mean that other members of the household would actually have to pick up the items they dropped. They couldn’t step over them without seeing them like they normally do.
I Don’t Need to Find It Certificate
Why does my family think I have little treasure maps in my head showing the locations of all the items they misplace? When I hear questions that begin, “Where are my…”, I can just show my certificate. Whether it’s homework, a favorite toy or my husband’s tie, I don’t have to worry about finding them.
First Seconds Certificate
I’m sure you’re familiar with the concept of family hold back. That’s when family members (especially moms) offer extra food to someone else even when they want it, in order to make sure everyone else gets their fair share. That’s fine when we pass around the spinach, but when it comes to chocolate cake, I want to be able to show my certificate and go for seconds before anyone else does.
Whining Certificate
This is a two-for-one certificate. If someone else is whining, they must stop when I give them the certificate. Or I can use it when I feel like whining to make everyone else listen to me (and not roll their eyes or make faces).
Refrigerator Clean Up Certificate
Someone else can have the fun of getting rid of the droopy carrots and little bits of leftovers that I was pretty sure no one would eat but I felt that I had to wrap up anyway. And this has to be done before they become unrecognizable science experiments and start to erode the plastic containers that I put them in.
Days Off Certificate
I just want some days where I can relax and have fun with my family without feeling guilty that I’m not getting anything done. I want someone else to worry about the wrinkly shirts sitting in the dryer or the blobs of toothpaste hardening on the bathroom sink Most importantly I want other people in the family to take care of these things so I don’t have to do twice as much the next day to make up for my day off.
Will I get what I ask for? I hope so, but whether my family gives me a certificate or not, I’ve decided to take a few more days off this year to relax with my family. That will be my present to myself.

Hanukkah Decorations and Party Ideas
Creating Hanukkah decorations is fun not only for children but for adults as well. Children can have a ball creating their very own paper dreidels. Cut the design of the dreidel out of paper. Use markers or crayons to color in the designs then use glue to hold the shape together.
Use dreidels in other aspects of your Hanukkah decorations. Use blue fabric paint to stamp pictures of dreidels and the Star of David on a plain white tablecloth. Or you can sprinkle blue dreidel confetti over a white tablecloth. Create a paper Star of David decoration by folding a strip of blue paper into a star with six points. Tie a string onto the top of the Star of David at attach it to the ceiling.
A popular tradition on Hanukkah is to give chocolate coins wrapped in a gold wrapping. Create new and inventive ways to give this treasured gift. Sew a small bag together out of velvet. Sew in a drawstring at the top of the bag so it can be pulled shut. Turn the bag inside out so the soft part of the velvet faces the inside. Center a stamp with a Hanukkah symbol on it inside the bag so that it is neatly pressed against one of the sides. Lightly spray the outer side of the bag opposite of the stamp, with water. Place a hot iron down on it for several seconds. When you turn the bag to its proper side, the impression of the stamp will be left on the bag creating a wonderful place for chocolate coins. Or you can use etching cream on the sides of used baby food jars. Tie a ribbon around the neck of the jar and place blue tissue paper on the inside. With the addition of the coins you can now give the children in the family a parting gift that is not only pretty but also delicious.

Including using SPAM techniques, reverse 911 messages to all cell phones, instant messaging, Television and Radio. We can use our current technology to protect the American People, keep them informed and use the; Power of Presence to Win the War on Terror. I am quite confident we can do this if we put together a real plan of action and test it once per month. It will also assist in Tornadoes, Hurricanes, Earthquakes and Natural Disasters. Consider it an Amber Alert on Steroids or “Gone Wild” or the Spammer from hell or a new age Blogger Gone Ballistic.
How do I know this will work? Well as a Renaissance Man and a studier of human nature, systems, patterns, flows and cycles and being up on the latest technology; well let’s just say I know what I am talking about. Now we can just sit on our butts and argue in Congress and wait for the next intelligence failure, political fall-guy in the never ending blame game or we can get busy and join the reality of the Twenty First Century. So, do not say I did not tell you so and please consider all this in 2006.
