Overvaluing Starting Hands

Every hand in online poker is a new hand dealt off the deck. It seems sometimes people forget this very common observation. Following from it too, they will forget that one should never get too married to one certain supposedly great preflop hand at a time. Going broke off one hand that you just couldn’t relax on is truly an online poker player’s worst sin.

Everybody likes to get dealt pocket queens. We all love that ace king, and those other hands that we wait often hours to pick up and put to use. The truth, though, is that no matter how long you wait for one of those big dogs, there is never a guarantee that that hand is going to pan out. Because a hand is mostly defined by the flop, being able to give up those jacks when it becomes clear that the board isn’t working with you is simply vital to any player’s survival.

On the flip side of the same coin, a player should be of the mind of not sitting around waiting for preflop monsters, and instead opening your game up and incorporating prospective hands, though still in the mind of playing smart, aggressive poker online. Get dirty. Mix it up. See what happens.
